Parent Focus Group
(Posted on 07/02/17)
Parent Focus group meet every other Wednesday from 3.30 -5pm. We discuss school policies, school processes, school events; in fact, anything which directly affects your children. We actively canvas parents’ opinions on every aspect of school life and this group is the advocate for the parent body. In addition, we buy in and run courses which parents and pupils alike can access. They present an excellent opportunity for you to learn new skills alongside your child.
Teachers and outside providers are regularly invited to address the group, sharing information and advice which will help you help your child. Parents have; sampled school meals, helped organise a Parent Information day, joined in with the school’s sponsored walk ,checked the readability of documentation that goes out to parents, helped to ratify and renew school policy and have always been ready to lend a hand in Open evenings.
In addition, the Parent Focus group have organised Christmas and summer fayres, 3 ladies only fashion shows, bingo sessions for the students in school at Easter, Christmas and in the summer term and ‘fun’ days which act as rewards for our pupils. They have raised money by having stalls in the Stiwt Christmas fayre and organised for buckets to be placed in the Stiwt during the Six Nations tournament.
With the monies collected they have:-
Purchased a Defibrillator for the school and paid for the training £816
Paid for our cheer leaders to enter a competition and helped with purchasing their costumes. £312.
Purchased a laminator and an apple box for the Art department. £110.95
Purchased an IDL programme to help students develop their literacy skills £718.40.
A warm welcome is extended to all parents from years 7-11. There are child minding facilities available if you have younger children you would like to bring along.
The Ysgol y Grango Parent Focus Group is so much more than a PTA. We recognise the valuable contribution parents can make in every area and aspect of school life.
Please come along and help us on our journey to become the best we can be.
